OVI40, WK Housing Heatsink

Hi
For those using the housing for your OVI40 project done by WK (Germany) there is another alternative for additional heatsink. The same housing is also used by many mcHF users (up to rev 0.6). This email is a follow on to what DL5VA already suggested in April/May this year.
On Ebay I bought a Chinese alternative (who else, hi) for Elecraft KX3 Heatsink. It costed 18 EUR, including shipping. It is a perfect fit to OVI40 with WK housing as well. Check the photos. Now I need to cut the opening in fix the heatsink to the existing ALU block. I'll keep you posted.

Hi
Current virus situation is also a chance to complete long hold projects. I finally managed to attach the KX3 Heatsink to my OVI40/mcHF combo, both installed in the WK Housing.
First it was necessary to cut the hole on the upper side. Then I drilled two holes on both sides in order to fix the existing inner Alu cooling block - to avoid the mechanical stress to both output transistors and both voltage regulators. Last but not least - fixing the KX3 heatsink to the Alu block. The results:
- max. measured temperature on RX: 51,2 C (ambient temperature was 24 C) after 12 hours on RX, before that it was easy to bo beyond 60 C after one hour of use.
- total weight: 850 g.
