Title: LCD Auto Blank

Hi

Hi Artur,

that is absolutely strange! At "auto-dark" nothing else is done than removing completely PWM voltage from LCD completely. I have tested here with my OVI40 and I cannot confirm. At the lowest illumination level consumption is ~ 1.5mA higher than at LCD completely off. That is the behaviour I expected to see. Tested with 3.5" LCD 480x320.

I have checked now mcHF with linear regulators and 2.8" LCD and mcHF with switching regulators and 3.5" LCD@480x320: same result. Lowest power consumption at LCD AUTO BLANK. If I switch to lowest possible brightness current increase a few mA. Not much - but it increases on all devices under all circumstances.

BTW:
The reason why we implemented AUTO-BLANK was not lowest power consumption. It was stopping the rf noise of the data traffic to the LCD which gave "helicopter sound", especially when used in SPI mode.

Dann liegt es am LCD. Aber - wie gesagt - das Ziel dieser Option ist nicht dr geringste Stromverbrauch, sondern die kleinstmöglichen HF -Störungen!

Hi,
@Thomas: what types of STM you have in both versions 3.5 and 4"? Are both the same?

I see in the code that during blanking feature waterfall/spectrum refresh is stopped, although not have idea if this would impact the current consumption...

@Slawek

Yes. The stopping of spectrum and WF causes dramatically decrease of data traffic and so reduction of rf noise. Most other data-traffic (like S-meter) is with minor influence.

Hi Andreas,
I have some suspicion, when the scheduler for waterfall/spectrum is disabled there might be other function (like the s-meter) which takes full core power... I've observed this some time ago after menu was displayed. As said: this is only suspicion...

Now I can follow your idea! You think not the LCD is consuming the power.... But that cannot be because of my both mcHF (F4) and my both OVI40 (F7/H7) do not show larger power consumption when LCD is blank. I think it is coupled to the LCD.

Thank you for the explanation, I still don't have assembled the H7 version. The F7 behaves identical to yours... So, the idea fell :)

But Arturs idea of saving power during AUTO BLANK is not so bad! Maybe there is a "power saving mode" which can be entered via command and which puts controller to "sleep mode" (suspend to RAM hihi...). We have to dig into the controllers datasheet ::) :P

There are more of them...
