Title: Temporary modification: resistor parallel to C94
Post by: S58J on 19. September 2018, 21:52:25

Hi

I noticed one small but important anomaly regarding adding the resistor in parallel to C94 (it is about MCU stand-by current consumption).

On this page:
https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/wiki/doku.php?id=ovi40build:uiboardbuild (https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/wiki/doku.php?id=ovi40build:uiboardbuild)
when reading in German it is written to add 56 kOhms in parallel to C94. When the same page is changed to English the "K" is gone and it reads: "Please try 56 ohms as the value".

Then I tried to find which is the proper resistor value by examining the mentioned F746 Discovery board schematics but all I see there is 10k resistor going from NRST to + 3V3 while in the OVI40 the C94 goes from NRST to the GND (so would the suggested resistor in parallel connect to the GND).

To keep it short, my question is: which is the right one resistor, 56 kOhms or 56 Ohms?

I also suggest to rename the current text "Temporary modification: to C94 resistor in parallel" to read as follows: "Temporary modification: add resistor in parallel to C94". The rest of the text also needs some amendments for more clarity.

Additional observation, if I may:
OVI40 documentation is rather weak and at certain points needs more clarity. Wiki in its current form is hard to follow and some translations bring more questions than answers. Often I go back to German language and I put the original text into the Google Translate, but sometimes even that doesn't help - and it is time consuming. In order for the OVI40 to be successful project proper documentation is as important as the product.

Please don't take this words as criticism but as a wishful user comment.

Kind regards,

Janez, W4/S58J

yes, the „k“ was eaten during Google Translation

56 kilo Ohm (56000 R) is the correct and tested value ;)

Hi Janez,

thanks for your feedback! Our language is German - but we do speak English, too. Of course someone whose mother language is English can write much better than we! So I choosed a WIKI where everybody can contribute. Not only a "one person maintained text" - that would not work. And "google translate" works - but personal translation works much better. So every page can be translated into every language "by hand". If you want to help the project and all other builders who join the project after you please create an account at the WIKI and correct the passages which are poor. No fear! It is not possible that anything can be lost forever (same mechanism like in GitHub).

Your (and everyones) contribution is highly welcome! And if you do have questions: you already choosed the right way: write them down here in discussion group. So both will work together to hopefully get a very good documentation in English, French, Italian, Polish and every other language where contributors do help.

Writing in WIKI is as easy as using an office suite...

The Wiki articles exist in 3 languages - German, English and French

Using Google Translate to machine/translate the German article to English usually makes matters worse.

This is why the articles have been manually translated. As Andreas said any contributions are highly welcome.

Please check the flag symbol in the menu bar of each Wiki page. Use the flag icon to change to the English Wiki articles, as explained here:
https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/wiki/doku.php?id=en:ovi40wiki:wikihowto (https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/wiki/doku.php?id=en:ovi40wiki:wikihowto)

You may either do changes in the article directly or, at your choice, leave your observations on the bottom of each Wiki page. Either case will generate a notification and your observations / modifications will be noted.

Best

Gerd.
