Title: Version 7 white screen
Post by: WD8BXS on 05. September 2019, 17:06:07

Working on a version 7 has the white screen.

3 different displays, no change,
New MCU, no change

checked and re-checked all solder connections.

NO Change.

Any ideas??

Hi Chuck,
what type of lcd connection you have: serial or parallel?

Maybe the classical white screen FAQ will help.
https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/forum/index.php?board=15;action=display;threadid=374 (https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/forum/index.php?board=15;action=display;threadid=374)
A lot of issues are discussed there as well as their solution.
Google translator might help here cause its more or less all in German... ;)

The main question was not answered so far: What does the LEDs say ? According to their behavoiur you can "see" if the board performs a normal boot. That makes troubleshooting of just the LCD a lot easier.
If they do NOT show normal behaviour during boot your board maybe does not even boot correctly, which then leads to maybe a wrong or faulty bootloader or firmware.
UHSDR firmware and bootloader is recommended here of course.

I believe the Version 7 is a parallel display.

Radio seems to be working Ok, just white screen.

Using the latest bootloader and firmware.

Spent another hour today checking and re-checking connections.

All seem to be fine, I am stumped!

Chuck, are the displays definitely okay?

Hi

I bought 10 LCD at HY28B:
https://www.hotmcu.com/28-touch-screen-tft-lcd-with-all-interface-p-63.html (https://www.hotmcu.com/28-touch-screen-tft-lcd-with-all-interface-p-63.html)

4 displays work in parallel 6 displays have a white screen.

Chuck, you should definitely test that with an LCD from which you can be sure that it works. So one which has been successfully tested before. Its also always recommended to put the lcd on a socket.
One issue we found here with HOTMCU lcds as well was cold soldered pins. So maybe it helps to resolder the connection pins.
And doublecheck the correct position of the 0 ohm codimng Rs for parallel or serial operation.

It is quite rediculous to get cold soldered LCDs from HOTMCU ::) - but I can confirm this for dozens of LCDs...

I have 3 displays that are all showing white screen.
@ came with the radio from the customer, one was here new in the box.

Unfortunately, I do not have another radio to try the displays in.

Certainly a possibility that they all 3 could be bad.

Thats a bit too much of coincidence. I doubt that all 3 have problems. I would guess that there is maybe a resitor on the PCB missing or so or the wrong serial/parallel coding.
I could test them on an experimental UI here with sockets but i guess sending them from the US to EU is too much efford. :-\

Thanks Peter, Yes a big mystery.
There are no resistors between the MCU and display, just direct connections.

I am looking for a local test person.

Sent the displays to another user, and all 3 did not work.

Here is a pic of the back of the display that does not work.
