Update:
I was successful in finding the sources and a real 64 bit version in the "release notes". After installing it worked flawlessly like WSJTX. So I can state that it is an Ubuntu problem.
I do not know which audio source you are using - it is recommended to use the devices which start with "plughw:"
It can (and will) differ at your working space but here the device for "Input" is named:
plughw:CARD=U40SDR,DEV=1
and for Output:
plughw:CARD=U40SDR,DEV=0
Here the output of aplay -l when OVI40 is attached:

If you are using mcHF (or sparrow) your string is "mcHF" instead off "40SDR".
